Late to the Show (by Luna)

Mum and I set off this morning on a reaaallly long drive to a show. The map on the computer told her it would take under 2 hours, but the road was really windy and we had some disagreements on the way.

What's wrong with trying to sit in Mum's lap anyway? The back is noisy, a bit too warm and a little bit scary, even though my comfy bed was there - I'd much rather be in the front with Mum. Apparently Mum can't use the levers and wheel properly though when I'm sitting on her lap and she has trouble seeing out with my head in the way. Geesh Mum, deal with it!

If only she'd let me sit in the front instead of stopping all the time and putting me back in the back (against my express wishes), we would have gotten there in time.

We finally arrived at the show place and we jumped out of the car and raced over to the show ring. There was another Great Dane in the ring - she was the only other one entered! We rushed over to the man in charge but he said "No! Too late! You've already been declared absent!". Mum told him that we'd just driven 2 and a half hours to get there but he didn't change his mind. I offered to bite him but Mum said I better not.

There was a horsey show on at the same showground so we went and watched them for a while, then we started back on the long drive home.

On the way back, we stopped at a nice creek with a bridge over it and Mum got the camera out. She let me have a snuffle around in the long grass first...

Img_5645

But then she told me it was time to work! Apparently since I'd gotten out of it at the show didn't mean I got out of it completely. Bugger. So I did my best show stack impression...

Img_5684

Pretty good, don't you think? Nope... not according to Mum. My tongue was hanging out, not good enough, try again, she said. Pft so what if my tongue was hanging out. It was hot! Dogs do that ya know Mum.

Img_5687

Mum informed me that I look especially goofy when my tongue is out. Apparently it's a BIG tongue. And it never seems to hang out the front, just out the side...

Img_5689

Admittedly sometimes I forget about it and close my mouth when it's still hanging out... of course Mum had the camera in my face at the time - doh!

Img_5690

Oh FINE then how's this Mum, look I even made my ears sit properly too. Gotta be bonus points for that, they aren't easy to control!

Img_5698

Mum, Mum! Are you looking? Look at my perfect stack!! How good am I!

Img_5710

How's my profile?

Img_5723

Mum said I was looking quite good and doing well, so she stripped me of my collar and made me do some nude posing! How do I look, boys? Only problem with this is I was doing what Mum calls 'munchy-lip' (sometimes when I close my mouth my lips get caught inside - oops).

Img_5735

We kind of gave up on the show practice shots after that. But did the posing demands end? No! This time she wanted one of my face. This is what I thought of the idea...

Img_5736 Img_5737

The next instructions were to smile and make my ears sit properly. I attempted...

Img_5743 Img_5745

My ears didn't want to co-operate though! I tried again...

Img_5749

Yay! Mum said that was much better. Phew. This modelling business is HARD! We had one last go at a nice-eared, non-munchy face, tongue not-out shot...

Img_5753

... and I nailed it!!! Yee haa!

I learned today that this modelling business is harder than I thought! I always thought Kaya had the easy job as Mum's professional dog model, but it's a lot of work and Mum is a very demanding boss. I think next time we are heading to show I might sit in the back and be good so we get there on time. I would much rather do that than be the subject of one of Mum's tedious modelling sessions!!

Meet my sisters! (by Luna)

On the weekend, Mum went away. She was gone the whole two days! We went to the beach with Dad so we didn't miss her too much. When she got back, she showed us lots and lots of photos that she took at a Great Dane show that she went to in a far off place called Sydney!

Since I was actually originally from Sydney, there were two of my sisters there being shown!!

This is Libby. She lives with a Great Dane breeder called Manningdanes.

This is her being shown by her Dad.

Img_3965

This is my other sister Lacey. She is owned and shown by a little boy! Isn't she pretty?

Img_3958

Img_3996

So do you reckon my sisters look much like me? I would love to meet them one day!

Oh! And I had to get Mum to put in a photo of Libby's super hot live-in boyfriend Phantom. He's a few weeks old than us and he's huge! Very handsome, I hope I have a boyfriend like him one day!

Excuse me, we were sleeping

Luna and I were having a nice little nap on the couch tonight...

Img_3302

When we were rudely interrupted by Mum. I was having such a nice dream and she woke me up with a jolt!

Img_3297

Muuummm!!!

Img_3298

Anyway turns out I got to keep sleeping while Luna went and had to do stand practice. Hehe it's good being a normal non-show dog sometimes.

Img_3312

Well, I DID think that, until I realised Luna was getting treats! I thought I better go and investigate.. can you spot me?

Img_3306

Luna actually did pretty good with her stand practice tonight. She's 7 months old now and getting bigger!

Her bum is still much taller than her front end though - hehe I tease her about that all the time. I'm sure she will even out one day though! Us Great Danes can look a bit funny when we are growing cos we grow so quickly, but at least we turn out alright in the end!

Img_3320

(Oh and by the way - I got treats too after Luna had finished practicing - yay!)

More stand practice (by Luna)

Mum says we have lots of shows coming up soon, so tonight we had to practice standing. I would much rather practice lying down on the couch, thank you very much...

Img_1420

We went outside tonight instead of in our bedroom, Mum said it was good for variety. All I think it was good for was getting my feet wet, it had been raining! Anyway we did the regular stand thing, I got my cheese...

Img_1437

This time I even got a little back massage! Mum said it is to try and make my back relax a bit and my back legs go bendier. It felt kinda nice!

Img_1462

I was a good girl and even stood there when Mum walked away! Now that's what I call talented!

Luna being a show-off

I hope you've all enjoyed the posts about LUNA lately, what a little blog hog she is!! Oh well gotta let her have her time in the limelight before it naturally reverts to me again.

Anyway just one more show related post, here's Luna out in the front yard after coming home from her shows on the weekend, with her ribbons. The ribbons are for winning Best Baby Puppy of Breed.

(Don't tell her I told you, but the only reason she won them is cos there were no other baby puppy Great Danes entered! hahahah I think that's so funny.)

At the Dog Show (by Luna)

I'm back! I think we better start calling this blog 'The Adventures of LUNA and Kaya'! hehe

Well Mum and I drove a really long way to some dog shows this weekend. She didn't manage to get anyone to take photos while we were in the ring, but here are some of us hanging around waiting. There was a lot of waiting and it was very hot, so I wasn't too keen on running around when we finally did make it to the ring! Oh well. Lots of other doggies were the same.

Anyway here's some pics of me and Grandma and Mum's friend Tara (Maple's Mum)...

Practicing the Stack (by Luna)

Yay! I get to do another post by myself! Mum says it's cos I am getting older and more responsible. I reckon it's just cos Kaya is getting lazy in her old age... ouch! Kaya! Fine then she's not old. She's being generous apparently.

ANYWAYS, not sure if you guys knew this, but I am a show doggy! Mum's never done it before me but she wanted to give it a go so we are both learning as we go. We can't just turn up at shows and do it though, we need to practice! One of the things we practice is the 'stand' or 'stack'.

I have to stand like this so that the judge people at the show can see my conf... confer... conformation!! Which basically means what I look like and how I am put together.

After we stand and the judge examines me, we get to trot around the ring so he can see how good I look when I am on the move! I like this part the best I think.

We do lots of practice at home to try and get me in just the right position. I like these sessions cos it means I get lots of CHEESE!!! Which is my favourite ever treat, yum!

We have a show coming up this weekend so here are some pics of me and Mum doing some practicing...

I stare at the cheese but make sure I don't grab it before Mum says I can have it...

Img_7087

Yay! I was good, so I got to have some cheese...

Img_7088

More staring at the cheese! Mum moves it all around and I have to follow it with my eyes, just to make sure I am concentrating!
